We select compassionate staff that has numerous years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities. Our staff receives ongoing training from attending workshops, seminars, etc. to increase their levels of competency. Their avid interest and extensive knowledge brings a rare excitement to the learning process. When our staff, board members, and specialty consultants’ comes together, they form a team of professionals dedicated to each consumer’s need. All are trained in behavior management techniques. Our team prides themselves with developing strong bonds with all of our consumers.

Activities

  • The Smart Place is interested in partnering with other like minded individuals to enhance our creative and progressive atmosphere for the individuals we serve. While offering our daily programming, SPACS is expanding our service base by incorporating the skills of volunteers and interns! During our general and summer program for mentally and physically challenged individuals in the State of Georgia,
  • The volunteer program will offer tutorial sessions such as arts and crafts, computer activities, dance and exercise, discovery classroom activities, Adult Daily Living Skill classes, swimming and equestrian programs, weekly trips, daily walks, picnics and cook outs!
  • Our volunteers program will offer skilled services to enhance our enrichment and seasonal activities, by targeting social and emotional development.

Hours

Programming hours for our participants is are from 9:00am – 3:00pm, Monday -Friday.
Volunteers and intern weekly commitment time will be mandated as per assignment and will stay in effect for 6 months

Prospective Applicants for Employment

It is recommended that individuals desiring consideration for employment come to the agency and complete an application for employment. Pre-Employment Drug Testing

In order to qualify for employment all applicants will be subject to pre-employment drug screening and all job offers are contingent upon the satisfactory outcome of this drug test. Refusal to test or a positive test result will cause denial of employment. Following an employment offer and prior to being considered an active employee, successful applicants will be screened for drugs as part of the pre-employment evaluation. Applicants will be requested to sign a consent/release form acknowledging and understanding the procedure, authorization of the procedure to be performed and consent to release the test results to the agency’s Medical Review Officer. Applicants who refuse to sign the consent/release form, or refuse to undergo the drug testing procedure will automatically be denied employment.

Georgia Department of Community Health Rule 290-5-54-.09(3)(a)1

Rule 290-5-54-.09(3)(a)1 requires a written statement to be obtained at the time of application that an individual has never been shown by credible evidence (e.g. a court or jury, a department investigation or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited or deprived any person or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct. Applicant’s signature on employment application serves as acknowledgement of this rule and as a personal attestation and statement that applicant has never been shown by credible evidence any of the aforementioned.

At-Will Employment Policy Statement

It is the policy of this agency to provide that all employment and compensation with this agency is “at-will.” This means that employment can be terminated with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time, at the option of either The Smart Place or the employee. Title: Direct Care Driver

Minimum Requirements
Must be at least 25 years of age
Must have graduated High School or GED equivalent
Post-secondary training in education, special education or in a related, helping profession field, or significant related work experience.
Knowledge of basic principles of child and/or adolescent psychology, and of learning theory.
Must pass background check
Must have at least 2 years experience with intellectually disabled individuals
Must have valid CPR, First Aid Cards
Must have a valid drivers license
Training and/or experience in one of the following:

  • Implementing a behavior management program.
  • Caring for handicapped persons with mobility, dressing, eating, taking medication, caring for personal hygiene and safety needs.

Conflict resolution training.
Working knowledge of computers.

Title: Direct Care Driver Assistant
